Agriculture and allied sectors are the largest sources of livelihood in India. More than 68% of its rural households still depend primarily on agriculture for their livelihood. With 82 percent of the farming community consisting of small and marginal categories, the agriculture sector is largely been dominated & driven by the small and marginal farming community.  Aggregation of producers, especially small and marginal farmers, into producer organisations is established as one of the most effective pathways to address many constraints of agriculture but most importantly, improved access to finance, technology, inputs, and markets. With an objective to address the key constraints being faced by small and marginal farming community and making agri and allied sector a sustainable source of livelihood, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India came up with the ambitious programme of promoting 10,000 FPOs under Central Sector Scheme over next five years. The programme is also aimed at achieving the goals of its flagship program of “Doubling of Farmers Income by 2022”. The concept of FPO is based on the theory of economies of scale and aimed at promoting collective approaches by institutionalizing business efforts of faming community. Sheel Biotech Limited is promoting 50 FPOs across different geographies in India. The highly professional, experienced, and committed team has successfully delivered the project with quality and maintained the timeline. The outstanding performance of SBL has appropriately been acknowledged by Implementing agencies like, SFAC, NERAMAC, NAFED and NCDC and their recommendation has placed the SBL among the category of high performing CBBO. All the FPOs promoted by SBL have been successfully grounded with proposed staffs, management committees, functional governing board and have started their business activities. For further marketing of their produces, the FPOs have been onboarded as B2C and B2B on various online (E commerce) marketing platforms such as GeM, ONDC and other marketing platforms for ease of doing business. They are doing direct business with consumers and wholesale buyers across different geographies in India. The expert and experienced team of SBL has facilitated institutional linkages and helped FPOs in mobilizing Post-Harvest Infrastructures (PHM) like, Turmeric processing units, Curcumin oil extraction units, orange processing units, Mini Rice mills etc. The department of Agriculture & farmers welfare, Go I has published a book on success stories of FPOs promoted on PAN India basis under “CSS for formation and promotion 10000 FPOs”. Out of 75 FPOs which were nominated by the Ministry based on their performances, 7 success stories of Sheel Biotech Ltd (as a CBBO) got published.
